Once your application is reviewed for completeness, a staff member will contact you regarding any further necessary documentation, fees, or if a pre-application meeting is required before proceeding. The online permitting process is for ease of submitting documentation and cannot be utilized to guarantee meeting relevant deadlines, to “vest” the application, or to circumvent required review periods. Applications are only considered complete once all relevant documentation is provided, fees are paid in full, and the staff have assessed the application.

Permit Administration

The Permit Administration Section, through its Permit Coordinators, receives and reviews applications for construction and non-construction permits and issues permits once compliance is verified.

Permits for construction are requests for new construction of primary and/or accessory structures and additions to existing structures. They also include mobile home placement and swimming pool installations.

Permits for non-construction undertakings include requests for home occupations, taxi services, commercial signs, changes of use or changes of occupancy for existing commercial buildings.

Most importantly, because St. Charles Parish must comply with the International Building Codes, the responsibilities of the Permit Administration section has expanded greatly over the past several years.

Land Use Planning and Zoning

The Land Use Planning and Zoning section, through the Development Review Planners, manages land uses for commercial and residential development through commercial building permits and commercial and subdivision review as well as through the implementation of zoning regulations.

As this section is also the central coordinator for all resubdivision actions, all legal subdivision actions are applied here.

This section is always ready to provide guidance for the subdivision of individual lots. This section also receives and processes applications for Planning Board of Commissioners meetings.
