Volunteering

The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter conducts volunteer trainings Monday through Friday, between 9am and 3pm. After training on disease control, policy, safe handling and behavior, volunteers are then prepared to come to the shelter and to start helping.

Once trained, volunteers can schedule through our volunteer portal, or come in any time we are open. We are open two Saturdays a month for volunteering.

Contact the shelter at (985) 783-5010 for more information on volunteering your time or talents to support homeless animals in our area. You must be 14 years or older to do physical volunteer work at the shelter and fill out appropriate paperwork.

If under 14, an adult must complete orientation and assist volunteering.

The shelter also accepts donations of goods such as newspapers, cat beds, towels, dog and cat toys, dog collars, leashes and treats.

Donating

Turning Rescues Into Pets (T.R.I.P), is a local 501c3 that supports the shelter animals in transports, advanced medical care, enrichment and so much more.

Good Flights is a program of Greater Good Charities that conducts life-saving airlifts and supports ground transport for at-risk and vulnerable pet populations with a heavy focus on asymptomatic heartworm-positive shelter dogs, disaster relief, homeless cats, and harder to place large dogs. Good Flights also helps clear space in shelters and evacuate pets in times of disaster to empower communities they serve by furnishing them with tools and program support, and providing the transport of critical supplies for human and pet support during times of crisis.
