About Economic Development and Tourism

Econ Portrait The Department of Economic Development and Tourism is responsible for fostering economic growth and vitality in St. Charles Parish by promoting the community as a welcoming place for businesses, workers, families and tourists. The Department achieves its mission by focusing on six major functions.

The Department attracts and recruits businesses that will diversify our local economy, capitalize on our competitive advantages and provide the highest benefit to existing businesses and residents. Through department interaction, existing businesses are encouraged to grow and expand by affording them opportunities to succeed. Local entrepreneurs are able to seek help to start and grow small businesses with essential tools and resources.

The Department also cultivates community assets that appeal to business owners, workers and residents; develops workforce development programs that provide local residents with career pathways while ensuring local employers have a pipeline of skilled workers; and markets the community’s tourism assets to potential visitors and travel industry professionals.
