Planning and Zoning PortraitThe Department of Planning and Zoning is committed to maintaining a high quality of life in St. Charles Parish. While ensuring fair and consistent application of Parish codes and ordinances, the Department provides the public with the necessary technical assistance and professional expertise to ensure safe and orderly neighborhoods and businesses.

The Department reports to and assists the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Zoning Board of Adjustments, and the Coastal Zone Advisory Committee.

The Department acts as a gatekeeper of the Parish Zoning and Subdivision ordinances,  the Louisiana Uniform Construction Code, and Federal requirements for Flood and Coastal Management.

With numerous responsibilities, the department is divided into four divisions; Planning, Permitting, Code Enforcement and Coastal Zone Management to provide specialized services to residents

Need to report an issue? The Report Issue Form can be used to report code complaints, permit and zoning inquiries, and request Elevation Certificates or Floodplain Information.

Floodplain Management

St. Charles Parish is a participating community in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and as such, flood insurance is available to St. Charles Parish residents.
