FREE PRESCRIPTION DISCOUNT CARD AVAILABLE TO ALL ST. CHARLES PARISH RESIDENTS

A free prescription discount card is now available for St. Charles Parish residents through the National Association Counties.

The card, a joint effort between St. Charles Parish government and NACo, can be used at participating retail pharmacies to save an average of 22 percent on prescription medicines. According to provided information, there are more than 60,000 participating pharmacies worldwide. The program does not require an enrollment form or membership fee, and the card can be used immediately by anyone, regardless of income.

Families or individuals may use the prescription discount card any time a prescription is not covered by insurance. There are no restrictions or limits on how many times members may use their cards. Pet prescriptions may also be covered, as well as all commonly prescribed medications and some specialty medications.

Statistics from NACo show current program participants saved over $8,000 on medications in 2009. Cards were used at local pharmacies an average 68 times per month in 2009.

Residents may pick up the card at the St. Charles Parish President’s Office, located at St. Charles Parish Courthouse, 15045 River Road in Hahnville, second floor, or the Department of Community Services, located at the Allen Artebury Building, 14564 River Road in New Sarpy.
