CRIME FALLS 22 PERCENT DURING THIRD QUARTER OF 2010

Post Date:November 16, 2010
I am pleased to report that crime statistics for the third quarter of 2010 reflect a 22 percent decrease from the same period in 2009.

This resents a welcome reversal of the last four quarters where crime increased, primarily in the categories of theft and burglary.

The FBI tracts crime in seven categories and the following is the comparison between the 3rd quarter of 2010 and that of 2009. Violent crime in St. Charles Parish continues to remain very low.

The total number of UCR crimes fell from 710 to 551 during the third quarter of 2010.
Robberies decreased from 8 to 7 during 2010.
Assaults fell from 242 to 223.
Thefts decreased from 324 to 218.
Auto thefts fell from 25 to 21.
We experienced one homicide during all of 2009 and have seen two in 2010 thus far.
Reported rapes rose by one from two to three in 2010 in the third quarter.

We credit the decrease in crime, especially in the areas of theft and burglary, to our aggressive and visible patrols as well as excellent work by our Criminal Investigation Bureau in investigating and arresting serial thieves.

Preliminary, the month of October has also been compiled and shows a continuing reduction in property crime in St. Charles Parish.
We will do everything we can to try and keep crime numbers moving downward.
